[ARCHIVED] Safer At Home FAQ Press Release

PRESS RELEASE

March 26, 2020

*** For Immediate Release ***

Since Governor Evers’ Safer At Home Order went into effect on March 25, 2020, the police department has received a number of questions asking what actions the police department will take to enforce the order.  Specifically, if our officers would be conducting traffic stops on vehicles to determine if the occupants are violating the order.  The very short answer to that question is, NO.

You may leave your home to go grocery shopping, for doctor appointments, to pick up food, do your laundry, to go for a walk in the sunshine, and to go to your job at any essential business or operation.  While some employers are providing their employees with documentation that theirs is an essential business, no documentation is required to travel from your home.

This is not to say the police department will not take action when necessary.  We will continue to respond to specific complaints of individuals or organizations not adhering to the Safer At Home Order.  If we see people congregating in a manner that violates the “No Greater than 10 persons” or “Social Distancing” guidelines, we will stop and speak with them.  Our goal will always be to counsel people and gain voluntary compliance.  We must remember these restrictions are in place to protect everyone, particularly the most vulnerable among us.

We have included a link to both Governor Evers’ Safer At Home order and the Safer At Home FAQ sheet, which will hopefully answer many of your questions.  During these trying times, as our officers and staff continue to keep Muskego safe, we appreciate the support we have received and the compliance we have seen throughout the community.  Please stay safe and for the time being, stay distant.
