Utilizing funds donated by the Muskego Task Force On Public Safety Education, which sponsors Muskego’s annual observance of National Night Out each August, the Muskego Police Department has implemented a permanent drug collection program in order to reduce the supply of drugs that can potentially harm children, teens and adults.
Properly disposing of excess drugs is everyone’s responsibility as a matter of public safety. More than 70 percent of young people abusing prescription pain relievers get them through friends or family, a statistic that includes raiding the family medicine cabinet. Now Muskego citizens won’t have to wait for a specific take-back day to clean out their medicine cabinets.
The collection site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and accepts all prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, samples, and pet medications. Thermometers, needles or syringes, inhalers and aerosol cans will not be accepted.
Drugs collected will be disposed of in a safe, secure and environmental friendly way.
