K9 Program
Program Mission Statement
The mission of the Muskego Police Canine Unit is to promote service and safety in the community by providing general and specialized police patrol through the efficient deployment and use of a canine team. Their deployment will involve using a police canine to enhance crime prevention activities, criminal investigations, personnel/citizen protection, and assist in drug education. |
Sergeant Diedrich and K9 Officer Sirius
Sgt. Shawn Diedrich has been with the Muskego Police Department since June of 2000. Sgt. Diedrich has worked in the capacity of a patrol officer, a school resource officer, drug investigation detective, and since October 2013 has served as 1 of 2 department K-9 handlers. In 2020, he was promoted to the position of 3rd shift Sergeant. | |
Sirius is a male German Shepherd born on June 3rd, 2012 in Butzbach, Germany. He is a dual purpose work dog that executes drug searches including Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, and Methamphetamine. He performs evidentiary searches and searches for people. Sirius attended a 5 week training course with Officer Diedrich at the Steinig Tal Police K-9 Academy located in Campbellsport, WI. This is a law enforcement K-9 specific training facility established 1978 and is associated with Waukesha County Technical College. |
Officer Sundstrom and K9 Officer Obi
Officer Sundstrom has been with the Muskego Police Department since September of 2015. Officer Sundstrom has worked in the capacity of a patrol officer, department armorer, a former member of the Civil Disturbance Unit, and took over handler responsibilities of K9 Obi in April of 2020. Obelix, or Obi for short, is a male German Shepherd born in 2018 from Ehringshausen, Germany. He, along with Officer Sundstrom, also went through the 5 week training at Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport, WI before taking over sole 2nd shift duties in October, 2020. Obi is a high-drive dog with the same capabilities as his other furry, four-legged, crime fighting partner. |
